Dr. Caitlyn was introduced to chiropractic and acupuncture through Dr. Derek Tenckhoff. She saw how healing chiropractic could be while receiving treatment herself, and was able to manage her chronic pain due to EDS and interstitial cystitis. While completing her undergraduate studies with the intention to eventually go into medicine, she received acupuncture treatment at her university’s health center. She realized that Chinese medicine views the body, and the person, as a whole– that everything is connected and that every symptom has an underlying cause. Chinese medicine focuses on treating the underlying problem, opposed to providing a short term/ band aid solution. She decided to pursue Chinese medicine after realizing the ability it had to prevent diseases.
Dr. Caitlyn holds the highest level of acupuncture training and education, which only the top 1% of acupuncturists hold. She received her Doctorate of Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Southern California University of Health Sciences where she graduated as the valedictorian. She received her Bachelors of Science in Biological Sciences from the University of Maryland. Dr. Caitlyn is double board certified by both the California Acupuncture Board (CAB) as well as the National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NCCAOM); in both acupuncture and herbal medicine earning the highest distinction from the NCCAOM of Diplomate of Oriental Medicine (Dipl. O.M.). Dr. Caitlyn’s doctoral research focused on acupuncture and herbal medicine for the alleviation of menopause symptoms. Her research on this topic suggested that acupuncture and Chinese medicine may reduce menopause associated symptoms and help improve quality of life for menopausal women. She recognizes that everyone has their own unique history and health goals and aims to provide individualized care through acupuncture and Chinese medicine.
